what is it?
A warm and
fragrant spice blend common in Chinese cuisine. It's typically composed of star

also grind your own five-spice powder from whole spices, although some of
the components are as hard to find as five-spice powder itself. The advantage
of making it yourself is that, like all freshly ground spices, it will be more
potent than its pre-ground counterpart.
how to choose:
well-stocked supermarkets carry five-spice powder (McCormick sells a version).
Or check at an Asian market.
